It is the wear layer: the clear coat over the printed grain. Everything above it is finish, everything below it is core. When a vinyl floor wears out, it is the wear layer that went, so it matters more than thickness and far more than price.
- 12 mil
- A spare room, or a rental you expect to redo between tenants.
- 20 to 22 mil
- Kitchens, hallways, kids and normal pets. This is where most people should be.
- 30 mil
- Big dogs, a busy entry, or a shop floor. Commercial duty.

Based on what is selling across the flooring trade in 2026, not on our own order book. Warm, light neutrals have taken over from the cool greys of the last decade.

Two warranties, and they cover different things.
The plank
Lifetime residential, 10 years commercial
This is the manufacturer’s warranty on the floor itself, and it comes with the product rather than from us.
These warranties do not apply to damage from exposure to extreme heat or sunlight exposure, dryness, or stains as a result of chemical or industrial products (other than recommended cleaning products). Window coverings should be used during periods of intense sunlight to avoid intense heating of the flooring product.
The work
One year on our workmanship
Ours, not the manufacturer’s. If something we did is wrong, we come back and put it right. A plank fault is a warranty claim; a bad joint is our problem.
What it is certified for
- FloorScore
- Indoor air quality, certified by SCS Global
- GREENGUARD Gold
- Low chemical emissions, certified by UL
- Cradle to Cradle Silver
- Material health and reuse
Worth knowing if anyone in the house has asthma or allergies: these test the chemicals a new floor gives off indoors, which is the part of a flooring job nobody thinks about until the smell will not go.
Seeing them in your own light
A color on a screen is not the color on your floor. Kitchen bulbs run warm, north windows run cold, and a plank that looked grey in a photo can read brown once it is down. Pick a few from this page and we will bring the samples to you, free, and leave them with you to look at over a day.
